What's the difference between the A-Series and E-Series PixLite® range?

posted in Products

Introduction

The A-Series of PixLite® Mk3 controllers are our flagship products, supporting full performance functionality from our PixLite® Mk3 processor, as well as additional features such as onboard power management and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. The E-Series (standing for Economical) removes some of these features to provide a more cost-effective option, without compromising on the performance and functionality of the Mk3 processor.

Both the PixLite® Mk3 A-Series and E-Series have the same capacity for pixel control, both featuring 6 universes per pixel output (24 universes for 4-port devices and 96-universes for 16-port devices).

They also both feature the Mk3 processor, so are both compatible with SHOWTime™ and Advatek Assistant 3 and will both be able to drive pixels at hundreds of frames per second.

The main difference comes in at power management, and Ethernet.

A-Series PixLite® Mk3 Range

A-Series controllers have extensive power management, including:

  • The ability to power pixels through the controller,
  • Fault protection to protect the pixels,
  • Smart electronic fusing: fuses will trip when over-current is detected, and will periodically attempt to re-enable power until the fault has been cleared, and
  • Advanced thermal performance, including a heat sink to allow for up to 7A of pass-through current per pixel output, up to 24V.

A-Series controllers also have more advanced Ethernet adapter circuitry, which allows:

  • Two Ethernet ports, for daisy-chaining device to device and/or creating redundant network connections (E Series has only one port),
  • Universe data hardware firewall, to filter out irrelevant data so as to maintain performance in high-traffic networks, and
  • Both Ethernet ports are capable of gigabit speed, allowing for a high bandwidth of data to be sent/received without significant latency (E Series is 10/100 Mbps).

E-Series PixLite® Mk3 range

For situations where many of the above advanced features may not be necessary, then the E-series may better fit your budget.

The E-Series PixLite® pixel control range does not compromise on core functionality, manufacturing quality, international certifications, and 5-year
